A great fit for locals who enjoy a small town feel
Located about 6 miles northeast of downtown, the Glenshire neighborhood in Truckee is a quiet and secluded community that many locals call home. It’s long been known as a locals community and widely agreed to be part of the banana-belt – it just doesn’t get as much snowfall as many other neighborhoods in Truckee. I find most Glenshire residents are young families, but its been nice to see an influx of skiing retirees to round out this community.
Nestled in with views of the Carson Range, where you’ll often find ice skaters on the centrally located pond in winter. I’d say this friendly neighborhood of fewer than 1500 homes is truly welcoming. Offering a family friendly mountain environment, the Glenshire neighborhood in Truckee offers quiet streets and a lower snow load than elsewhere in town, where kids can play outdoors year-round, and bike around the neighborhood’s rolling, but mostly flat terrain.
It is a community where it is easy to get to know your neighbors, and there are subdivisions in the community in many different price ranges, from starter homes to large 20 acre estates. While some people say the Glenshire neighborhood in Truckee is too remote, many others find Glenshire the perfect fit for raising a family. You’ll find starter homes that can begin on the $400K range and large estates cresting $1M. Offering varied homesites, you can find Glenshire homes zoned for horses, homes with a lakeview, riverview, meadow view, or walkable to school.

Glenshire Market – A great general store offering everyday provisions, assorted bakery items, plus ice cream and a great selection of organic and gluten-free options. It’s especially helpful in the blustery winter months so you don’t have to run all the way to town or even Reno for bread and milk. The Glenshire Market makes the Glenshire neighborhood in Truckee quite a well rounded option for families.
Playdate Daycare – Your local option for the little ones under elementary age. Centrally located across from the Glenshire Market, Playdate is a great daycare with quality providers.
GPC – Glenshire Pizza Company serves thin crust pizza , with crafty combinations or traditional toppings. Salads, pastas and appetizers are also on the menu. It’s actually more than convenient – it’s a luxury to have a good pizza restaurant right in your neighborhood.
Glenshire Clubhouse – The clubhouse is a venue that can be rented for events, which also hosts Truckee Town Church on Sundays, an elementary aged after school and summer program, playground, pickleball/tennis courts, pool, and workout classes. The Glenshire Clubhouse is located right off the Glenshire pond.

The Glenshire Pond – The Glenshire Pond has a great walking trail and is one of the most popular places in Truckee to walk with the family and exercise the dog. In the winter months the braver families are found ice skating on the surface of the Glenshire Pond. The outer west-facing ridge of the Glenshire pond is the perfect slope for sledding December through March.
The Legacy Trail – The Legacy Trail, adjacent to the Truckee River and connecting the Glenshire neighborhood in Truckee to Historic Downtown Truckee, is a 7 mile paved trail for walking and biking into town. On the Legacy Trail you’ll see fly fishermen on the Truckee River, dog walkers, cycling clubs and moms strolling with toddlers. It’s basically a game-changer; even people who once thought the Glenshire neighborhood in Truckee was remote are now changing their tune due to bike access into town. Glenshire Elementary School – Glenshire Elementary School is in the heart of this neighborhood. It’s a great K through 5 public school with great parental involvement, nice facilities and an incredible teaching and support staff. Glenshire offers programs in music, technology, P.E., science, art, English language arts, and counseling. Glenshire Elementary School goes above core studies with lots of hands-on learning opportunities and enrichment explorations for students, including Spanish, German, yoga, ceramics, guitar, technology and more.
